(March 1, 2011) So I was looking at the stats for this site, and apparently there are still a few people looking for This Is Not Science Fiction stories! This is pretty encouraging, but I'm curious: would it be better to complete Ignition (about 1/5 the way through) or start over with a new story? Ignition was problematic to write, since it's the story about the first manned mission to Mars, and it's hard to avoid using SciFi cliches, being overly technical, or ending up with a tone that's artificially "epic" and "grandiose". While I think I have an original story here, I would like to try something with fewer pitfalls. However, if you've read the first six pages of Ignition and really want me to finish it, I understand! So I'm putting up a poll, and I'm going to leave it up for a few days, so please let me know :) -Grant | ||
“This race is about which nation knows what the hell they’re doing in space, and who can really build a Mars Rocket using their country’s engineers. If they’re asking international corporations to do the job for them, it means they’re desperate and behind schedule.” “In all likelihood this is the first step before they try to cancel the race entirely,” I tell them, “That’s why I think it’s not a serious contract. They’ll come up with some low-ball number, then when nobody takes them up on it it’ll prove to the public just how hard reaching Mars really is. It’d be a good way to get more political support for a cancellation.”
